Terms and refunds

Last updated 27 October 2026

These terms cover your use of Fix My Council Tax at fixmycounciltax.co.uk. By paying, you agree to them.

What you're buying

A one-off payment of £4.99 gives you access to the Fix My Council Tax band checker. It opens on the device and browser you paid in, and you can restore access on another device using the email you paid with. It covers homes in England, Wales and Scotland.

What Fix My Council Tax is, and isn't

Fix My Council Tax is an independent tool. It isn't part of, or approved by, the Valuation Office, HMRC, the Scottish Assessors or any council. It gives an estimate based on what you enter and on public data, and it isn't legal, tax or professional advice. The Valuation Office (part of HMRC) or, in Scotland, your local Assessor makes the final decision on your band.

Challenging your band is free on GOV.UK. You decide whether to challenge, and you submit it yourself. A challenge can lower your band, leave it the same or, rarely, raise it. We're not responsible for the outcome of a challenge or for decisions you make using Fix My Council Tax.

Your right to cancel

Fix My Council Tax is digital content you can use straight away. When you pay and open the app, you agree that it starts immediately and that you lose the usual 14-day right to cancel once you've started using it.

Refunds

If Fix My Council Tax doesn't work for your home, for example it won't open after paying or your council isn't included, email hello@fixmycounciltax.co.uk within 14 days of paying and we'll refund you in full. A result saying your band looks right isn't grounds for a refund, because confirming that is part of what you're paying for. This doesn't affect your legal rights.

Figures we use

Council tax rates are the official 2026/27 figures, and house price changes use Nationwide's regional house price index. We update them regularly, but they may not match your exact bill.
